Maharashtra polls: Akhilesh Yadav Urges United Front Against Mahayuti for Positive Change in 2024 Elections in Maharashtra assembly poll.
Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday called for a unified opposition strategy to challenge the Mahayuti alliance in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Criticizing the BJP—which partners with Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP in the Mahayuti coalition—Yadav expressed a strong commitment to defeating what he termed “enemies of Maharashtra,” aiming to bring positive change to the state.
Yadav, whose party secured two seats in the last Maharashtra elections, is vying for a greater share in seat-sharing talks with alliance partners. Through social media, he addressed the “dear people of Maharashtra” and media representatives, emphasizing the importance of public awareness in ending what he called BJP’s divisive and negative politics.
“With your awareness, Maharashtra can be freed from the BJP’s conspiracies and divisive strategies,” Yadav posted on X. He accused the BJP of undermining Maharashtra’s economy and failing to recognize the unified opposition’s positive agenda. According to Yadav, BJP’s tactics aimed at dismantling the state’s economy are clear to the public, who are now mobilized against it.
The SP leader went on to accuse the BJP of fracturing Maharashtra’s historic social harmony and attempting to weaken the state economically and politically, allegedly with the intention of shifting the country’s economic leadership away from Maharashtra.
“The political, social, and economic consciousness that has awakened among Maharashtra’s people and its media will not allow the BJP’s strategies to succeed,” Yadav said, urging people to reject the BJP and its allies to safeguard Maharashtra’s pride, jobs, and industries.
Yadav also alleged “mega-corruption” by the BJP, claiming that the party’s policies have led to dishonoring public figures and damaging Maharashtra’s social cohesion. He praised Maharashtra’s independent media for courageously resisting BJP’s “anti-Maharashtra” tactics, often despite limited resources.
Highlighting the importance of a responsible media, Yadav expressed optimism that Maharashtra’s journalists will continue to act as the “fourth pillar” of democracy by countering BJP’s propaganda and exposing its tactics. He specifically praised independent media channels and journalists who continue to report on BJP’s political strategies despite financial and operational challenges.
“A joint, organized political strategy will end this ‘Mahadukhi’ period under the BJP-led Mahayuti,” Yadav concluded, reaffirming his commitment to positive change for Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra assembly election is set for November 20, with votes to be counted on November 23.
