Trump vs Harris: surveys reveal a tightening competition in US elections 2024

Trump vs Harris: United States presidential election draws closer, three recent national polls highlight a closely contested race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

With just over three weeks remaining until Election Day, these surveys reveal a tightening competition. Trump is making notable gains against Harris, who replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee earlier this year.

The polls indicate that the race between Trump versus Harris is now within the margin of error, reflecting a shift in momentum that could play a crucial role in the final days of the campaign, as mentioned in a report by Fox News.

Here’s a closer look at the latest survey results and what they suggest about the current state of the race.

A recent ABC News/ Ipsos poll of likely voters shows a narrow lead for Kamala Harris, at 50% compared to Donald Trump’s 48%. This marks a significant shift from last month when Harris held a six-point advantage over Trump. The poll reflects the narrowing gap between the two candidates, with Trump gaining ground as the campaign enters its final phase.

Similarly, an NBC News survey of registered voters nationwide reveals a dead heat between the two candidates, each with 48% support. This represents a reversal from the previous month when Harris held a five-point lead. The tight numbers suggest that Trump’s support has solidified as Election Day approaches, especially among his core base.

Meanwhile, a CBS News/YouGov poll of likely voters gives Harris a slim three-point edge over Trump, at 49% to 46%. This is down from a four-point advantage just a month ago, indicating that the race remains extremely competitive, as mentioned in a Fox News report

The departure of President Joe Biden from the 2024 race significantly altered the dynamics of the election. After a challenging debate performance against Trump in late June, Biden withdrew from the race, prompting a quick rally around Harris as the new Democratic standard-bearer.
Her campaign saw an initial boost in enthusiasm, with increased fundraising and positive shifts in favorability ratings, allowing her to gain a lead over Trump.

However, as the campaign transitioned from summer into fall, Harris’s momentum has slowed. Her favorability ratings have slipped, and the perception of her candidacy as a continuation of the Biden administration has persisted among voters.

This shift has coincided with a resurgence of support for Trump, particularly among Republican voters returning to their party’s nominee.

Political analysts are divided on whether Trump’s recent gains indicate true momentum or if they reflect a natural closing of the gap as Election Day approaches.
David Paleologos, Director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, emphasized the need for more data before drawing firm conclusions. “It could be momentum, or it could be the natural closing of the gap in a very polarized country,” he explained.

Republican pollster Neil Newhouse, known for his work on GOP presidential campaigns, highlighted the challenges facing Harris. He argued that Harris’s campaign is at risk of losing its initial advantage, saying she is “on the verge of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” as her image falters and Trump gains traction.

While national polls are valuable in understanding the overall race, the outcome of the 2024 presidential election will ultimately hinge on a handful of key battleground states. States like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia, which played decisive roles in President Biden’s 2020 victory, are once again under the spotlight.
Polls from these swing states suggest that the Trump vs. Harris contest is also extremely close in these critical areas.

A question is Kamala Harris losing among Black Men? As per latest reports, Harris support has lowered among Black men but she is still ahead of Trump.
As per known facts that US Elections 2024 will be held on November 5.
