5 Dead In JK: Family Sleeps with Doors and Windows Closed to Escape the Cold, Dies of Asphyxiation

5 Dead In JK: A tragic incident has come to light from the Pandrethan area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, where five members of a family died due to asphyxiation late Sunday evening. An official confirmed the incident, stating that the parents and their three children died from suffocation inside their rented room.

The family, originally from Uri in the Baramulla district of northern Kashmir, was living in a rented accommodation in Srinagar. They were found unconscious in their room and were rushed to a nearby health facility, where doctors declared them dead.

According to reports, it has not yet been confirmed whether the family was using a coal heater or another type of heater to stay warm in the biting cold and snowfall in Srinagar, which may have led to their deaths from asphyxiation. A police team has been sent to investigate the exact cause of their deaths.

The landlord, Mukhtar Ahmad, stated that he received a phone call from the relatives of Aijaz, informing him that the family was not answering their calls. He said, “All the doors and windows of the room were closed.” Ahmad added that he lived far from the room, but when the relatives could not reach them, he asked another tenant to check on Aijaz’s family. After several attempts to get a response, they broke the door and found the family unconscious. Ahmad mentioned, “The family must have closed all the doors and windows to protect themselves from the cold. It seems this tragedy occurred due to asphyxiation.”
