Congress Targeted Shah: Controversy Over Amit Shah’s Comments on B.R. Ambedkar Intensifies, Congress Plans Nationwide Protests

Congress Targeted Shah: The controversy surrounding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar continues to escalate. In response, the Congress has announced plans to hold a nationwide ‘Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March’ at district collectorates on December 24. This announcement was made by All India Congress Committee General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Sunday.

Venugopal stated that the protests are part of the Congress’s demand for Shah’s resignation over his recent comments about Ambedkar during a debate on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha. He added that Congress will submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu through district collectors, demanding Shah’s removal.

Venugopal accused Amit Shah of tarnishing Ambedkar’s legacy, stating, “Shah’s comments insulted Ambedkar and deeply hurt those who uphold constitutional values.” He further criticized the lack of remorse shown by Shah, the Prime Minister, and the BJP. Instead, he alleged, they defended their stance aggressively and worsened the situation by “replacing Ambedkar’s image with that of George Soros.”

Congress Criticizes BJP and RSS

Venugopal accused the BJP of silencing dissent and disrupting parliamentary proceedings. He claimed that Shah’s comments reflect the mindset of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP, which, in the past, criticized the Constitution as “non-Indian.”

He questioned, “If a Congress MP had made such comments, would they still hold their position?” Venugopal also accused corporate-backed media of suppressing the issue and vowed to take the message directly to the people.

Upcoming Events and Campaigns

To mark 100 years since Mahatma Gandhi became Congress president, the party will hold events in Belagavi, Karnataka, on December 26 and 27.

  • December 26: Congress Working Committee meeting.
  • December 27: A ‘Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally to highlight the BJP’s alleged anti-constitutional actions.

Additionally, Congress will launch a month-long campaign involving state-level rallies and village assemblies to spread awareness.

Criticism of Silence from Kerala CM and Left Leaders

Venugopal criticized Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for his silence on Shah’s comments, suggesting he fears confronting the BJP. He remarked, “In a politically aware state like Kerala, the CM should have been the first to respond to Ambedkar’s insult.”

The Congress leader also criticized the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo members for failing to support Rahul Gandhi, who has been actively protesting on this issue.
